If the goal is to demonstrate Trump's power, kill a bunch of people, benefit the oil industry through higher prices and allow insider trading through volatility and knowing future policy, then the war is working perfectly.
If the goal is to protect America and advance its interest, then of course it's badly flawed, but no one paying attention could genuinely believe that.
BTW IMHO The strategic goal of Cuba is to be able to control who gets casino licenses and what cut of the skim the unitary executive receives, in perpetuity.
The worst thing about Trump is that he destroys anything good for good. He tears it out of the ground and then pours in salt—making sure nothing grows there again. I used to work in global health before retiring. I could see with my own eyes how the work I and my colleagues did helped people. Now that is gone. And whatever goodwill it earned America (not the reason we did it) has evaporated.
Ukraine has shown that a small country can damage and hold off a much larger country, even as its population and infrastructure are under heavy fire. I fear that, despite his desire to TACO, Trump, and the nation, will not be able to end this war at will.
Not just that "it didn't work." From the US's perspective, it may have done immeasurable damage if Iran's leadership concludes (correctly) that the US really is an unreliable negotiating partner; that (correctly) Iran has taken the worst of what the US is prepared to dish out and has survived; that (no doubt correctly) Iran can take more pain than the US can under Trump; that (perhaps correctly) the worst is now over and there is nothing more coming from the US; that (correctly) the only way to deter future US and probably also Israeli aggression is to get a nuclear bomb as quickly as possible. Perhaps Israel will stop that from happening, or perhaps Israel won't be able to. In that case, we'll see another TACO and another nuclear power in the Middle East. Well done, Republicans!
I'd bet my life savings on Pedo Donny doubling down. He'll try to Taco, but for that to work, the Iranians will have to cooperate. Which they won't.
They've got Donny by the balls, and, to preserve the regime into the future, or just to make a point, they won't let go.
Pedo Donny's fragile mental build would implode if he'd Taco only to be further humiliated. So he'll send in the military - tens of thousands of boots on the ground.
So this is going to get a whooole lot worse before it gets better...
Spot on with Trump trying the Venezuela model in (gasp!) Iran. But here's my question. We tried Dubya, then Trump, and then Trump again! Aren't we getting close to the point of 'trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?'
Tossing in an alternative point of view (John Mearsheimer's, not mine), he asserts when we stop, Iran likely won't stop, without first extracting a concession, like sanctions relief, or possibly reparations.

Trump’s goal was to remove sanctions against Russian exports- and benefit his boss ( Putin ) with higher crude oil prices.
Son Don Jr. sits on the board of a company that will resupply missiles to the DOD ( sic War ) - which might help out the family fortune- ya think?
"Take out a global bad guy, claim credit, move on to the next bad guy.
The “worked,” from his perspective, in Venezuela. It did not work in Iran."
It hasn't played out yet. He will announce victory, withdraw, and go on to the next adventure. My money is on Cuba.

Next up: Cuba. What’s the downside there? I GUESS WE’LL FIND OUT!
The November election, if it happens, will be a plebiscite.. Yes/No on T. .. as states increasingly turn purple Will the lemmings abandon ship?
“It did not work in Iran.”. But he will claim that it worked. And that’s enough for his blind MAGA faithful.
