We haven’t heard the word “stagflation” much in recent years, but it’s about to make an unwelcome and unnecessary comeback.

Only six weeks into Trumpkopf's term and his legacy is already written. Worse president of all time, past, present or future bar none. I guess we can look on the bright side - there will never be a worse president.

Jefferson Davis was worse!

Absolutely, but he was "president" of the insurrectionist Confederacy, not the United States, so he doesn't get counted on that list.

Great write up Jared. Thank you.

Isn’t the main reason he is doing this now, is to get rid of the IRS and eventually the federal income tax? Please comment.

Why we should want more tariffs: https://chris88.substack.com/p/enough-rope

Tariffs work like added friction within the economy. When has friction ever helped produce smooth motion?

If tariffs slow imports in critical goods, the demand for local inputs should help with employment. As for prices of foodstuffs, not clear why replacing demand for (cheaper?) imported food with demand for domestic food is necessarily inflationary, and could assist with employment.

Yes, many suppliers prefer to raise prices when barriers to competition allow them to, but I doubt that we are talking oligopoly. More like monopolistic competition (one of my least favourite phrases, along with "double coincidence of wants.")

The tariffs are not the problem; it will work out just fine.

The problem is/was the non-working migrants that forced up prices because they had to be fed and clothed and housed, but did nothing to shift the supply curve (down and to the right).

Disgusted to hear that Biden and his fellow creeps had the NSA employees jumping through DEI hoops. Can someone explain what that has to do with encrypting and decrypting sigint?

These DEI hires and agendas throughout the country were "deadweight" and just as inflationary as the non-working migrant invasion, because there was no measurable shift in the supply curve (down and to the right).

Being a new classical, acknowledging that Keynes came up with the label classical, it may be worth noting that the classicals drew a supply curve and used the current supply of labour to determine equilibrium quantity--price. Work or starve. This modern era is uncharted territory, rather than cyclical, because it is becoming common place to assess the optimal application of the 2nd Welfare Theorem of Economics, which we call the benevolent dictator model. What happened to working for a living in the private sector? Until DOGE, the government was just giving lazy and unmotivated people paychecks for government work which amounted to nothing productive.

What did Fani Willis produce with her persecution of Trump, to include lying on the witness stand, when it was clear that any alleged wrongdoing must be tried in a federal court. She is getting paid a pretty hefty salary to gut due process. It is like paying a Nazi to raid your home and demolish your furniture. She didn't want Trump to cut the budget to the bone, because the private sector can be very demanding and government jobs are often of little use.

But KT, what do you really think?

You and all the other important people just can't seem to LOOK at the BODIES. I am the person who put PILATES on the fitness map so I see ONLY bodies and 75% are TOO big and 65% are actually OBESE. Guess what? We buy a lot of food from Mexico and Canada so food prices will rise. Since only 1.6% of the US population is UNDERWEIGHT the higher food prices will prevent the collapse of our health care system and help the environment and make us all less angry. LOOK at the BODIES Jared B if you even read the comments..Remember, these are MY ideas. Paul Krugman is not interested in how economists can fix the bodies. Or the FRAUD from the CDC on our size based on the "grading on a curve" BMI. Make it easy: Read The Anti-WELLNESS Diet on Amazon for free. Maybe you will laugh even though humor and irony are not prized in fat America.

This comment is much, much funnier if you read it in the voice of Connor O'Malley or Tim Robinson.
