Trump and his team are incompetent on big projects and small ones. They can’t finish what they start, showing only that their underlying legal basis of “emergency” is and always was a complete scam.
Still cannot believe with the internet and even old fashioned libraries that we have citizens that buy what Trump and his sycophants are selling. How can so many people believe that a formerly fake billionaire, now billionaire by the grift is ever going to do anything that benefits the masses? I guess some of the masses really are asses.
You need to consider how the Admin will apply new tariffs using Section 232 after August 1. This will unsettle “agreements” settled in July and create more turbulence. The approach here is nuts. One roiling change after another.
Making decisions at this level requires knowledge. Trump knows nothing. If you don't have knowledge, then you need to rely on those who do. Unfortunately many in Trump's orbit are similarly challenged. Lastly, if there are any smart people in the room, one has to make the time to listen to them and use their advice. Nope. Trump relies on his substantial gut to make decisions. We're screwed.
“Currently, the negotiating teams of Vietnam and the U.S. are coordinating and engaging in discussions to concretize the topics covered by the two leaders,”
Trump will never be "concretized" and without concrete it will be difficult to build anything in our economy.
JB: "This was never going to happen and should have been given no more credence then my claiming I will acquire the ability to dunk the basketball in 90 days."
But, of course you can dunk a basketball in 90 days or even sooner. All you have to do is cheat or lie and say you dunked when no one was watching. That is how Trump runs his snake oil business. And what makes that possible for Trump is the pathetic fact that his servants and worshipers never hold him accountable for his failings and lies. There is always someone else to blame.
The Washington Post recorded more than 30,000 lies or misleading statements in Trump's first term, yet there are still followers who claim that he "tells it like it is." Trump, the GOP, and their voters live in an alternate reality and I don't believe there is any Democratic Party messaging or policy ideas that can connect with the Wonderland in which the Right exists today.
The one hope is that when the impact of Trump's stupidity, which is embodied in the recent passage of the budget bill, hits home, even those who are every bit as stupid and ignorant as Trump is will finally get the message -- Trump is not only incompetent, he cares not at all for the well-being of anyone but himself. In his quest to become the all-powerful King, Trump is willing not just to harm his own supporters, he's willing to kill them.
Like many you seem not to understand the true nature of what is happening. Almost all of this is the vision and plans of the racist White Christian Nationalists who now control the US government. Much of it has been known for a long time. They had plans and methods to turn the US into a Christian Fascist country. Russell Vought, in a secretly recorded interview by British journalists, said there were hundreds of EO's already to go. The underlying evil vision is well described in the preaching and writings of Ralph Drollinger and his disciples now holding power, including John Thune, Mike Johnson, Pam Bondi, Kristi Noam, and others. It is a vision of pure evil, using the Bible as the basis. In this vision, clearly articulated in published work by the authors, the US must become a Christian nation where only White Christians hold power. Vought regularly describes the threat that science, education, environmentalism, and more are to these creatures. The Drollinger view is perhaps even darker than Vought. The US should be an autarky and non-White Christians should be removed. The tariffs are a core part of the Christian vision. God gave the US to the White man to exploit its resources before Christ will return. The only legitimate functions of government he claims are, protecting private property, police to dominate the non-White Christians, and a military to keep the US safe from foreigners and to take what they want from the western hemisphere. Greenland and the Panama canal were not Trump's ideas, they are part of the Christian plan. It is the same theology, often exactly the same words, as maintained slavery in the South, that performed ethically cleansing on Native Americans, created Manifest Destiny, and took by force Mexico. John Calhoun, a US Senator from NC, argued effectively that the US shouldn't take all of Mexico because the people there included indigenous people, some who had intermarried, and many were members of the Catholic Church, so we just took almost all of what is now the Western US, and proceeded with ethnic cleansing of Native Americans. This is still the vision of racist Christian Nationalists. They lost the Civil War, but now they have the US military.
If the trade war that Trump needlessly launched carries on without end in sight, companies should simply refuse to pay the tariffs. They are clearly unconstitutional and if the Supreme Court ends up doing Trump’s bidding and overturning the lower courts, everyone will need to rally together to push back on this lawless president.
The picture with a fork in the road reminded me of the mythical island inhabited by two tribes - one that always lies (Trumpites) and the other that never lies. How do you phrase a question (chart a course) so that you get to your chosen destination no matter which tribesman you happen to encounter (happen to be in power)?
Completely in agreement. With this one exception. And then there's a third option: Remove this entire fumbling, bumbling, duplicitous group of vampires. Pull the switch, lights off, and be done with it. All his hyper-masculine bragging that he'd do this and do that before he won, the day he won, within 24 hours, everyone will come bagging, everyone agrees, and everyone is suckers and losers and beneath him and less than him, all compete Pavlovian bullshit. And people are still falling for the creeps as they continue to crush the economy with this entire con, yes, a con of tariffs. He, they, Bessent, are weakening the country. Intentionally. Thank god for Powell.
A possible alternative is the Supreme Court rules against Trump in one of the two lawsuits challenging his authority under the IEEPA he's already lost in District court. Yes, they could have ruled already, and should have. But they may be waiting until the tariffs really bite, when public support for their ruling is at a maximum.
Note Bene: One of the 7 lawsuits (iirc) challenging Trump's authority has been brought by an organization backed by David Koch, and none other than Leonard Leo, and it's far more Leo's court than Trump's.
My oldest of four children, age 44 this year, lives halfway up the Vermont border with New Hampshire. A stone’s throw from Dartmouth, yet very deep in the rural yonder.
The only thing I’ve learned I can gauge with certainty about his life is the tell that he has about the season of the year: He always has a full beard. The length of his beard is 3 inches in the summer and 12 or more inches in the winter. Has been for more than a dozen years.
"As Robert Frost might have put it: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. I took neither, and the economy suffered."
I recently saw it rephrased as "Two paths diverged in a yellow wood. America chose the psychopath."
Tariffs will never settle down under Trump. He thrives on the attention that uncertainty brings.

WH says odds of tariff related inflation are the same as getting hit by a meteor

There is certainly in that!
Thanks for your post, Jared.
